two post tuesday

lucky you!

so i think we are done listening to the radio in the car. we typically have chosen the most family-friendly station for our listening pleasure but after hearing 3 lingerie/adult superstore ads in less than a week, we're turning it off. i mean really? so i guess i need to make some cds. i don't even know what kind of music to put on them...lol...until then, let's hope the classical station can keep it clean.

winter wonderland

so, like everyone i know i've been attacked by a serious case of the winter blahs. it's february and there are still way too many months of winter weather left. when the dayhome kids called in sick one day last week, i ditched everybody and everything for a chance to take some pictures hoping to creatively rid myself of some of the blues. while i'm still tired of winter and can't wait for summer, i am quite happy with some of the images i got and thought i would share.

this first set was taken in my own backyard at the end of my mini photoshoot and produced some of the shots that i am most pleased with. of course.

this next set was taken at a small park just down the road from the kids school. it's not even really a park; just a small wooded area with a bench and a good place for the neighbourhood to walk their dogs. but you can't tell that by the pics huh?

these ones were taken at whitemud park. it was the first place i went and was the most disappointed with. meh. love me some sun flare though.

real (taken in camera)

fake (the result of a photoshop action but still cool)

oh and these are just to compare similar shots that i took in the summer. wah; i wish it was summer now!

january 2010

one month into a new decade of a recent millenium and here's what we've been up to.

as most of you know, richard was laid off from the airport the middle of december when his company was bought out. he chose not to continue on with the new company and has instead used his new-found unemployment to really work on the business he is starting with his brother. this is one of the shirts they have designed. there are lots more designs and samples and there is much measuring and comparing and spreadsheeting and communication with the manufacturer to keep him plenty busy.

i finished my first pair of longies for miss amerie. if only i had remembered to take notes of my mistakes during the process, i would be much more excited to start the next pair.

i started organizing my sewing room. i'm still organizing my sewing room. i will be in some element of organizing my sewing room for a while. edited to add that this is the before picture. it's still pretty messy but not quite this bad.

richard showed maigan how eating the peels of your fruit can make you more attractive. yeah, she still doesn't eat any of her peels. weird, huh?

amerie turned 8 months old and got her ears pierced. she was a real trooper. poor aubryn couldn't even stay and watch.

amerie is slowly becoming mobile. she is not quite 'there' yet but she will be soon.

i've been practicing with my new(ish) lens. i have a really hard time getting a good, in focus shot of maigan. amerie, however, loves to pose for the camera...

...even when she doesn't know she is. she usually has such a hard time falling asleep on her own that this was hysterical and miraculous.

we went to the ice festival on whyte. this is israel and laurenne at the top of a slide made entirely of ice. i really didn't think israel would actually go down (he was just a smidge short of the height requirement but they let him through anyways) but down he went.
he looks a little nervous to me. what do you think?
although all the sculptures were amazing, this one was my favourite hands-down. so cool and an amazing display of talent.

and just a couple shots of my cute kids with the ice bridge.

and this one just cracks me up. i had a girls night with my bff's where we threw ourselves upon the mercy of one martha stewart and this is what resulted. in my defense, it looked way cuter online. amerie seems to like it...lol...

what are the chances...

...that in a one and a half month break between benefits i would get both mastitis and strep throat?
well, let's just say that the chances are much better than i thought they were. i mean, i hardly get sick. but now that i have to actually pay for a prescription and can't just home remedy my way out WHAM! and WHAM again!
i'd better stop complaining or i'm gonna end up with a root canal, an ambulance trip, a round of chiropractic treatments and a nervous breakdown before blue cross calls back.
cuz apparently that's just my luck.

8 months

amerie at 8 months old:

*she weighs 18 lbs 3.25 ozs and is 27.5 inches long.
*she has started scooting and will soon be fully mobile.
*she can pick stuff up off the floor and put it in her mouth. she can also work her way off a blanket to get to the stuff on the floor.
*she can roll over from back to front; she apparently just chooses not to unless there is something she really wants.

*she has become more dependent on having a bottle to go to sleep. we are trying to give her water. sometimes it works; sometimes not so much.
*she generally refuses a soother entirely now.
*she gets cuddled to sleep at about 9:30 pm and is often awake at 2:30 am looking for milk and then will sleep until 7:30 am. on a good night.
*she is still on the top setting in her crib because she still sleeps in her carry bag thing. she will soon be too long for that and we will need to lower the crib.

*she loves puffed wheats, mum-mums, sweet potato and nutrios (baby cheerios). she does not like turkey with peas and carrots.
*she snacks more often than she eats.
*she loves to feed herself. she can almost pincer grasp stuff but it's mostly still fisted into her mouth.
*she yells when she wants more or if she would like her cup. we are trying to teach her those signs.

*she smiles even when she is sad.
*she loves 'away in a manger' for going to sleep.
*she gave me mastitis this month. well, maybe it's not actually her fault.
*she cut her finger pretty badly grabbing for a can. she grabs for everything. most of it she tries to put in her mouth.

*she got her ears pierced on jan 7th. yes, they are rubies. yes, her birthstone is the emerald. yes, i'm a twit and can't remember when she was born. good thing i do these lists every month.
*she got 2 new teeth this month. one on christmas day and one yesterday on jan 18th.
*she lights up when she sees her dad and looks for him if she hears him in another part of the house.
*she loves showers and baths equally and does not mind water on her face.
*she makes the cutest faces and is truly our delight.

haiti relief efforts

you probably know this already but there are a number of blogs that are donating to haiti relief efforts dependant on blog comments. in case you haven't already, please join me and go comment. we are making a difference. on one site, i was comment # 721,358. at only .10 a comment, she's already donating over $72,135. and she's just one woman (admittedly with a fair amount of money backing her up somewhere). anyways, i am simply amazed and inspired by the strength of strangers and the ability for the internet to bring about so much good. so much good people.

so why are you still here? click away my few friends and readers. i can't reach very many people with this but please spread the word.

oh and also if you text HAITI to 90999 a $10 donation will be charged to your cell phone bill and sent to the red cross. it doesn't get any easier than that.

this post is dedicated to the anonymous commenter on my last post. i'm sure you have inspired us all.

things i should be doing:

- laundry. i simply can not wash any more dirties until i fold the clean stuff. i've run out of laundry baskets. and i can't find my clean underwear. i know they are there somewhere.
- dishes. it's just bad. a certain male member of the household has admitted that the reason he leaves his chef boyardee cans on the counter and his breadcrumbs on the cutting board is because he's simply given up. only problem is, he eats more than anyone else in this house (more even then anyone else i know) and when he gives up, it makes us all want to give up.
- sorting recycling. it's our first garbage day since christmas because we oh so foolishly missed the last one. we ran out of organized space and motivation to do anything more than just toss the empty cereal boxes and occasional chef boyardee can (*ahem* thanks to me) at the side door. i really hope we don't have a freak fire at both our front and back doors before tomorrow morning. we would not make it out, i tell you.
- take down the tree. the christmas tree, in case you require clarification. yeah, there are no excuses. we may just end up hanging some tasteful decorative paper hearts on it and keeping it around a while longer. if only it didn't overpower the living room so much.
- make baby food. i did a big grocery shop on saturday morning (during which i began to feel ill) and bought all the fixings for homemade baby food. then i got sick. and still am. and i really don't want 6 lbs of pears and one humongous sweet potato to go to waste. luckily everything else is non-perishable.
- finish organizing my sewing room. i've got some yummy looking mail coming my way and i really really want to work with it as soon as i get my hands on those dirty little usps envelopes. of course they are nowhere near as dirty as the space that they will soon call home. which leads me right back to the fact that i need to clean my sewing room. oh yeah, right.
- clean my bedroom. ok, i've needed to do that for a long time. but i thought i'd add it anyways.

things i wish i was doing:

- sleeping.
- on a beach. in hawaii perhaps.
-
- i thought there was more but no. i'd really rather just be sleeping.

oh and please don't worry. i'll find clean knickers soon enough. well before i see any of you in person anyways.

Friday, December 18, 2009

we received news earlier today that my sister-in-laws parents were involved in a serious car crash today. her father was killed and her mother is in a coma awaiting brain surgery. my heart breaks for them. as i worry about how to make christmas special for all my family, i am just grateful to be here with them.

7 months

amerie at 7 months old:

*she weighs 16 lbs 11 ozs and is 27.5 inches long.
*she sits like a pro now.
*she still has never rolled over from her back to her front.
*she tries to do sit-ups. it's so cute to see her stuck in a 'v' position.

*her favourite place is still in mummy's arms but she likes being worn on mummy's back too.
*she started playing shy this month. sometimes mummy can't even turn her back.
*she will sometimes fall asleep in her carry bag bed thing if she is rocked. she often falls asleep in the car but usually does not stay asleep in her car seat..
*she takes a soother for bedtime and when she naps in her bed.

*she loves to eat homemade rice cereal, oatmeal, couscous, bananas and pears. avocadoes were not a hit.
*she eats on average once a day. milk is still her favourite.
*she drinks water from a sippy.
*she tries to grab the spoon when we are feeding her and put it in her mouth herself.

*she has started giving kisses.
*she is one of the happiest people i know. people have commented that she always smiles at them.
*she loves peek-a-boo and a-choo. seriously, just say a-choo to her and she will laugh.
*her favourite song is hush, little baby.
